An Afternoon with The Paradine Case (1947)

It's the Summer of Love and I love Alfred Hitchcock!

Today I'm watching The Paradine Case on Blu Ray. I haven't seen this picture in over a decade. The last time I saw it was on VHS from a Hitchcock collection that also had Notorious, Spellbound and Rebecca. It's a feast for the eyes and perfect viewing for a Sunday afternoon. It has Gregory Peck looking dapper, the usual bevy of lovely ladies, gorgeous location shots and some beautiful camerawork.

In addition, there's Charles Laughton, acting ever so delightfully curmudgeonly, while Ethel Barrymore makes us wish she had more screen time. Alida Valli made quite an impression in Eyes Without a Face and Suspiria, so it's not hard to imagine that something evil may be lurking beneath her cool exterior. I never get tired of watching Hitchcock movies, and this was a great film to revisit. Here are a few shots I especially enjoyed.

I adore Hitchcock and look forward to revisiting more of his work this summer.

I've never seen this one. I'll have to borrow it from you.

Thanks for reminding me I need to get back to finishing Hitchcock. This is one of four post-1940 films I've never gotten around to. In my defense, I bet this, Mr & Mrs Smith, Under Capricorn and Stage Fright are among his least seen works.

Glad to be of service, Don! I haven't seen Under Capricorn, though out of the other three, Stage Fright is my favorite. Alistair Sim delivers the Hitchcock humor brilliantly. It's definitely worth a view.
